A Legacy of Compassion: The Inspiring Journey of The Delhi Christian Friend-in-Need Society
For more than six decades, The Delhi Christian Friend-in-Need Society (DCFINS) has stood as a beacon of compassion, dignity, and service. Established on 14 October 1959, the Society continues to play a transformative role in improving the lives of the needy and caring for the elderly in Delhi.
🌿 A Humble Beginning Rooted in Faith
The Society was born during a historic gathering of Ministers and representatives from various Churches in Delhi, convened by Mr. Samson Daniel. The mission was simple yet powerful: to assist deserving and needy individuals within the community, guided by the recommendations of Church Pastors.
This compassionate vision soon evolved into a structured organization. A provisional committee—including the Bishop of Delhi, Mr. Samson Daniel, and respected members like Mrs. Moon—worked together to create the first Constitution of the Society. By early 1960, the Society was formally established and began its journey of service.
🏡 A Home for the Aged: Love, Care & Dignity
One of the Society’s greatest achievements is the creation of the Home for the Aged at Fatehpur Beri. What began as a dream became a reality in 1975, thanks to generous contributions from schools, Churches, and well-wishers. The first eight rooms were built and blessed that year, offering a safe and loving home to senior citizens who needed support.
A second phase of construction in 1982 expanded the Home’s capacity to 20 residents, marking a significant milestone in the Society’s mission.
🤝 Service Beyond Boundaries
In 1974, the Society made a groundbreaking decision:
to extend its services to people of all religions and communities.
This shift reflected the Society’s deep commitment to inclusivity, equality, and human dignity.
Over the years, the Home has welcomed elderly residents from diverse backgrounds, offering not just shelter but also companionship, medical care, nutritious meals, spiritual support, and a sense of belonging.
đź› Growth Through Challenges
Like many long-standing institutions, the Home faced challenges— including waterlogging, structural wear and tear, and growing maintenance needs. Yet the Managing Committee responded with resilience and determination, raising funds and overseeing major renovations.
Support from organizations such as Helpage India and Green Park Free Church (CNI) helped the Society:
-
Rebuild roofing and waterproofing
-
Renovate rooms & toilets
-
Improve drainage systems
-
Install RO water systems
-
Create a peaceful lawn for residents
-
Upgrade rooms, flooring, and safety features
These improvements ensured a safe, healthy, and dignified living environment for residents.
💛 More Than a Shelter—A Family
Today, the Home for the Aged is not just a shelter. It is a community filled with warmth, encouragement, spiritual fellowship, and care. Residents enjoy:
-
Daily home-cooked meals
-
Weekly doctor visits
-
Outings with donors and staff
-
Television, books, and indoor games
-
A peaceful environment for prayer and meditation
The Society’s dedicated committee, staff, Church partners, and volunteers work tirelessly to make the elderly feel valued and loved.
🌟 Looking Ahead with Hope
As DCFINS enters its next chapter, the vision remains firm:
to expand its services and establish another Home for the Aged, ensuring that no elderly person in need is left behind.
The Society invites donors, volunteers, and community members to join hands in this mission of compassion.
